The influence of dust aerosols on solar radiation and near-surface temperature during a severe duststorm transport episode

In the west of China, a rarely seen black storm, with high intensity dust aerosols and large area influence, occurred from April 26–29, 2015, for first time, after more than 30 years. Based on regional climate model (RegCM version 4.6), combined Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) satellite retrieval, meteorological, environmental data, this work presents pollution situation, weather background, backward trajectory during storm process. addition, we analyzed temporal–spatial distribution aerosol optical depth (AOD) impacts solar radiation near-surface temperature under extreme condition. We discovered that process was caused by surface cold pressure frontal transit background upper-air circulation “two troughs two ridges.” The pollutants primarily Xinjiang Central Asia region, along airflow, entered northern almost simultaneously southwest piled up Tianshan Mountains, then crossed mountains into southern Xinjiang. areas AOD were mostly in desert regions basins, whereas low-value mountainous relatively altitudes due to effect geographical climatic conditions.
